This month, the federal reporting agency that monitors automobile accidents reported that deaths in 2011 were lower than in 2010. The administration cited that Americans are driving fewer miles but that the decrease is also attributable to both safer automobiles and safer driving. The decrease last year represents a 26% lower fatality count than in 2005 – a rather impressive statistic.
As a precaution, we encourage all drivers to use appropriate seat belts and car seats. Regulations regarding the use of car seats were changed in NY in 2009. The state seat belt regulations that all drivers should be aware of are available from the DMV at http://www.dmv.ny.gov/broch/c-1.htm.
As automobile manufacturers include more safety features and improve the effectiveness of these measures – airbags, electronic stability control, anti-lock brakes, and daytime running lights.
All drivers should be alert and attentive while driving. Distractions such as cell phones and other electronics can put your family and other other motorists at great risk. It’s simply not worth it.
